Flooding in urban areas
Climate change is leading to more flooding in villages and cities. Heavy rain is causing waste water systems to overflow, which leads to flooding in the streets. Sewers have to overflow into the surface water, which affects the quality of the water. At the same time urbanization is increasing. More spaces are being developed and more paving that is not permeable, is being built. The result is falling water tables: the groundwater level is dropping due to wood pile pest and the living environment suffers.
Anti-flood paving with HUWA
Vandersanden has developed a system that reduces flooding and falling water tables. The system consists of anti-flood paving, allowing you to isolate the paved areas from the waste water system. The complete system includes:
- Expert advice on the system units
- An upper layer of HUWA pavers with spacers
- Information on the management and maintenance of the system
Isolation from the waste water system with HUWA water-permeable paving
With HUWA water-permeable paving you do not need to make any concessions with regard to your choice of material, the size or colour: you can still choose pavers. The spacers that come with the HUWA pavers provide a regular joint pattern in the paved surface. By filling the unobtrusive joints with, for example, stone chippings, water can be easily discharged along the pavers. This system, in combination with our clear, pragmatic advice and strong cost effectiveness, offers you the ideal solution for isolating the paving from the waste water discharge. You can choose from different colour schemes in 205 x 50 x 85 mm, 204 x 66 x 85 mm and tumbled size. Drains and gutters are no longer necessary, which makes for an attractive, continuous streetscape.
